Marine

Badak LNG marine area can be considered as “a hidden paradise”. In the beauty of waving blue water on the surface, lives a forest of coral reef deep beneath it.  Reefs are formed of colonies of coral polyps held together by calcium carbonate. Coral belongs to the class Anthozoa in the animal phylum Cnidaria, which consist of sea anemones and jellyfish. Most reefs grow better in warm, shallow, clear, sunny and agitated water. Corals are the main component of sea ecosystems. Their existence help the surrounding marine biota to gain a lot of food and protection. Some coral reefs attract planktons and smaller fishes which consumed by marine biota. For protection, coral reefs help disperse incoming waves and offer a home for some fishes like clownfish. They like to hide to avoid predators. Some invertebrates like ref crab, shrimp, and lobster are tend to playing around the coral reefs.

Badak LNG has rehabilitated coral reefs with transplantation techniques and artificial coral reefs made of concrete in the Segajah, White Buoy and Kedindangan waters. 17 forms of overall coral growth were identified in all survey locations. The location of White Buoy was identified as 11 forms of growth with a life percentage of 16.2% with a damaged status, the location of Kedindingan identified 10 forms of growth with a percentage of coral life of 57.4% with good status while Segajah location identified 1 type of growth with a percentage of 39% with moderate status.
