Pedada Merah (Sonneralia ovata) is one of the compilers of mangrove forest . Sonneralia Ovata breeds by seeds and lives in group. Sonneralia ovata fruit has a flat round shape. Apart from the trees that have benefits to counteract abrasion and tourism potential, fruits from Soneratia Ovata can also be processed into food. Seeing this potential, Badak LNG took the initiative to provide guidance to the community through a mangrove diversification training program. This training formed six groups that produce processed mangrove fruit with the type of Soneratia Ovata. Some products include mangrove syrup, mangrove sweets, mangrove dodol, and mangrove envelopes.Read More
Crabs maintain the balance of the ecosystem and play an important role in mangrove areas. Leaves that are eaten by crabs and removed in faeces form, have been shown to break down faster than leaves that are not eaten. This causes the energy turnover process to run fast in mangroves. The presence of crab holes, is indirectly able to reduce the level of toxic mangrove soil (lack of oxygen). These holes help the process of air exchange in the mangrove soil.
