While City Forest/Natural Park is mainly in situ conservation area, the Orchid Park is ex situ conservation area. Many endangered endemic floras were planted and preserved. We intend to consistently improve biodiversity.
City Forest is a type of lowland tropical rainforest ecosystem that is rich in biodiversity, both flora and fauna. It has several types of protected flora. In City Forest, five types of flora have the highest important value of species. They are Bridelia minutiflora, Schima walichii, Alstonia angustifolia, Endospermum diadenum and Ostodes pendula. The extinction level of flora species is from least concern to extinct.
Method of flora data collection activities (tree species) in City Forest uses census inventory method. The species are Thallophyta, Orcidacea, Bryophyta and Araceae. The diversity index value of flora found in City Forest is in intermediate level (1 ≤ H’ ≤ 3). It means that the community of constituent vegetation is stable enough. The types of flora identified in natural forests are Cempedak (Artocarpus integra), Palm oil (Elaeis guineensis), Salam (Syzygium eliptilimbum) and Kokang Leaves (Licuala sp).Read More
City forest is also a home for several types of protected fauna. Method of fauna data collection uses direct and indirect observation (footprints, scratches, nests and body parts such as skin, feathers) obtained in the forest. The type of animals in the City Forest consists of four classes that are the class of mammals, reptiles, insects and aves. Within the forest, we can see orangutan nests and many species of birds, insects, butterflies, millipedes, dragonflies, ants, frogs and spiders.
Only a small number of recorded animals were identified including mammals, reptiles and aves. The mammal species identified are Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus), Gibbon (Hylobates muelleri), Long-Tailed Monkey (Macaca fascicularis), Wild Boar (Sus barbatus) and Squirrel (Tupaia sp). The reptile species identified are Python (Phyton reticulatus), Cobra (Naja sputarix), Monitor Lizard (Veranus salvator) and Lizard (Mabouya multifasciatta). While the type of aves identified include Black Eagle (Ictinaetus malayensis), Bondol Eagle (Haliastur indus), Crow (Corvus enca), Perkutut (Geopelia striata), Big Bubut (Centropus sinensis), and Deer Woodpecker (Celeus brachyurus).Read More
